Halden spins, weaves and finishes cloth in one place, and has done since 1962. Its five businesses (spinning, weaving, finishing, home textiles and export) had grown up under five names.
Buyers abroad knew the export arm; shoppers knew the home textiles label; few knew they were one family. With the third generation taking charge, the group wanted a single brand that could hold everything together.
We gave the group one name and one mark: an H woven from warp and weft, drawn by hand. A palette taken from the mill floor, a serif cut like cloth, and a voice that talks about cloth plainly.
Specimen project. Halden Group is fictional; we made it in full to show how the studio works.
Group brand architecture: one family, five businesses
The textile brand identity starts with structure. Halden becomes a branded house: spinning, weaving, finishing, home textiles and export all trade under the one name, with a plain descriptor where a buyer needs it, such as Halden Home or Halden Export.
The result is a heritage brand refresh that people can follow: one family name for buyers and shoppers alike, and a clear rule for every business the group adds next.
Naming and identity: a mark you could weave
The H is built on a loom grid: two warp threads, one weft. It can be printed, embroidered, woven into a selvedge or stamped into a carton, and it reads the same at every size.
The wordmark is a quiet serif, opened up so it holds on rough paper and on a label sewn into a hem.
Launch campaign: Cloth people keep
The line came from the family. Asked what they make, the chairman said they make the cloth people keep: the towel that lasts twenty years, the sheet passed down. It became the launch campaign, the retail voice and the sign over the mill gate.
For sixty years we sold cloth under five names. Now people can see it is one family behind all of it.

Questions about this rebrand
How do you rebrand a family-owned group?
Brand1, a brand and creative studio, starts by listening to the family and to the people who run each business. We then set the brand architecture: which names stay, which go and how they relate. One identity system follows, tested with buyers and staff, and rolled out in stages so trading never stops. An Identity Programme usually runs 8 to 14 weeks.
What does a naming and identity project deliver?
A naming and identity project delivers a recommended name with a screened shortlist, a mark and wordmark, typography, colour, pattern and imagery rules, and brand guidelines your team can use. For Halden it also covered packaging, signage, stationery and a launch campaign line. A named designer draws and signs off every mark. Fees are scope-dependent; the price sheet is available on request.
Is Halden Group a real client?
No. Halden Group is a specimen project: a fictional brief that Brand1 made in full to show how the studio approaches a family business rebrand. The history, people and quotes are invented and labelled as such. Photographs of mills and looms on this page are licensed mood references, credited in place. Brand1 publishes client work only after the client signs it off.
